Switching from Adobe Lightroom Classic to Capture One: My Journey

I have recently changed how I edit and process my photos. It is not what I wanted to do, but I had little choice in the matter. Let me explain what happened.

Sometime during the summer my Lightroom Classic stopped working. All my other Adobe products still worked. After trying fixes on my own, I contacted Customer Support. After sharing some screen time, the problem was fixed. Or was it? Within half an hour it stopped working again. Another week of trying fixes I found online produced no results. So, I contacted Customer Support again. And another round of sharing my computer while the tech found a different reason it did not work. With the problem corrected, I started working on a photograph just to have it stop working again.

By this time I was using Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw to do my processing. These were almost as goo as Lightroom Classic, but I didn’t like having to jump back and forth between programs. On top of that, I had no way to print my work. Photoshop was good for some processing, but the print interface did not work for me.

Then I started seeing how other photographers were starting to leave Adobe for various reasons. After some research and testing, I settled on Capture One for my editing and processing needs. It has almost all the features of Lightroom Classic, and the print interface works well.

I cancelled all my plans with Adobe and should see the savings soon with no more subscription plans. No more foreign tech support, no more crashing in the middle of an edit (something that was becoming more frequent before it stopped working altogether), and no more monthly payments.

I enjoyed using Lightroom Classic, but it got to be undependable. I hope my stay with Capture One is a long and rewarding one.
